Summer on Sicily is traditionally hot. The average temperature in July and August is over 40 °C. That is why the best time for family holidays is the end of May and June. At that time of the year the water in the sea is warm enough. There are not many tourists there and the chance of not losing your beloved kid in the ancient ruins of Agrigento or in the fishing market in Trapani is greater than in July or August.
Scorpello, Cefalu, Castellamare del Golfo are really good for family holidays. Many parents come to Sicily with their children to make them healthier because there is such an opportunity there too. There are popular resorts on Sicily with thermal water which cures different children diseases. The most famous is Aliterme where skin diseases are successfully cured.
Another way of having wonderful holidays together with children is to stay with them in a Sicilian village. You will have nice food, cheap accommodation and the romance of peasants’ life there. Besides these there are lots of entertainments for children such as to feed a nice pony or to milk a nanny-goat, to gather fruits and to watch the process of olive oil manufacturing.
Children are fond of fests. If you come to Sicily in April you will be able to watch the Easter holidays. It will be interesting for you and your children to follow the Easter procession, to visit the Easter markets and fairs and to taste the Easter tarts and cakes which are baked on Sicily only once a year.
