Sicily regions: provinces, coast and cities

There are nine provinces in Sicily. Each of them has its own unique peculiarities for spending holidays.
In spite of the fact that Sicily is known mostly as the best place for summer holidays you may find it interesting in any of the seasons. The ancient Sicily is famous for its architecture. It is interesting for archaeologists. Each province has lots of sights, which will really be interesting for the tourists.

The province of Palermo is worth visiting because of its capital of the same name. Palermo has been existing for 2.5 thousand of years and it is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy.

Palermo is a centre of arts like Rome, Florence, Venice and Naples. In Agrigento there are lots of ancient relics like the ancient city of Acragas. Because it has plenty of antique sights it is known as “the most wonderful city of the dead” in the world. The province of Caltanissetta is famous for the great Norman castles. Its color is yellow. It is the sunniest region on Sicily. The province of Messina is situated at the strait separating Sicily from the continent. Its geographical position determines the main characteristics of the region. It is a mixture of traditions of the great ancient civilizations like Byzantines, Greeks and Romans. Nowadays it is famous for its most wonderful resort of Taormina.

All the regions of Sicily are unique. You can read about them a lot but it is better to see once. Catania and the Etna Volcano, the olive groves of Ragusa, the temple of goddess Cerera in Enna province, the antique Hellas in the province of Syracuse and the salt mines in Trapani are really worth seeing.
