Syracuse was considered to be the main center of the Mediterranean in the antique time. And now there are many unique monuments here.
The Greek Theatre is the most popular of them. It is one of the largest buildings of the antique time in Europe. It is a unique building, where are still shown performances. And in such decorations the producers stage the plays written by the ancient Greek dramatists only.
Antique Necropolis is another considerable sight of Syracuse. It is under the protection of UNESCO. 5000 tombs, which were hollowed out of one piece of rock, make a great impression on tourists.
Many ancient nations left their signs in Syracuse. Greeks were the most generous of them. Many fortifications and Athena Temple were built in Greek times. Catholic public worships are held in Athena Temple now. The second amphitheatre is Roman’s inheritance. The ruins of the Anactaron Palace remind of the grand Byzantine epoch.
The province of Syracuse isn’t within the limits of its capital. There are many interesting places for tourists here, such as Vidicary reserve; Noto, the town which is considered to be the home of the Italian baroque style.
