Italian government made a decision to spend 3 mln of Eur for support of archaeological parks in Sicily. Some experts say, that nowadays such a famous sites as Temple of Valley in Agrigento and ancient Greek buildings in Syracuse are past repair. The financing of archaeological parks should prevent further dilapidation of unique monuments, many of which are the global heritage.
The plan of investments was announced on the National conference of representatives of Italian sites in the World Heritage list of UNESCO. Project will take 3 year, Italian Minister of culture Francesco Rutelli said. The annual value of financing of archaeological parks in Sicily will be 1 mln Eur.
It’s necessary to remind, that there are the range of many interesting archaeological places beside of wide-known preserves in Agrigento and Syracuse. They are ancient greek amphitheatre in Taormina, the region of Sicilian baroque Val di Noto, ancient roman villa in Piazza Armerina, temple in Segesta and medieval town in Erice. At the moment, UNESCO approved 4 sites on Sicily to include in the World Heritage List: Villa de Casale in Piazza Armerina, temple complex in Agrigento, ancient greek settlement in Syracuse and region of Val di Noto in Catania and Ragusa provinces.
