Punta Braccetto – Rocky Coast and Caves

Punta Braccetto is a coastal town for anyone who wants to experience the sea not only as open water, but also through rocks, coves, caves and history. Between the Colombara promontory, protected landscapes and maritime experiences, it offers a multifaceted picture of Sicily.

Rocky coast, caves and protected landscape

The area “Punta Braccetto, Contrada Cammarana” is designated as the SAC/SPA protected area ITA080004. One particularly striking landscape feature is the rocky Colombara promontory, also known as Braccio della Colombara, which extends more than 200 metres southeast into the sea. At the foot of the promontory lies the Antro di Orfeo, one of two caves at the foot of the promontory.

West of Punta Braccetto, the character of the coast changes towards the wide beach of Randello: the coastline there is rocky and rugged, while the numerous coves are known as “Canalotti”. Those who want to experience different coastal forms during a trip will find named rock formations, caves and coves within a compact thematic area. The waters of Punta Braccetto are particularly popular with snorkellers and scuba divers because of the many caves and rocks.

Torre Vigliena and the stories of the town

The ruins of Torre Vigliena, also known as Torre del Brazzetto, stand on the Braccio della Colombara promontory. Baron Pietro Celestri commissioned the construction of Torre Vigliena in 1600 to repel pirate raids from the African coast. In addition to its geological character, the ruins therefore give the coastal area a clearly identifiable historical dimension.

The 2026 summer programme of the 17th Notte Saracena also focused on the stories and settings of the town. The events were scheduled to take place around the “Angolo del Ritrovo” information point next to Piazza dei Tramonti in Punta Braccetto. The programme included the excursion “Punta Braccetto svelata”, a walk through the town, its stories and hidden treasures. The summer programme was scheduled to conclude on 5 September 2026 with a “Sagra della Pizza + Arancina”; binding registration at the information point was required by 2 September.

Getting your bearings at the beach access points

At the beach access points of Punta Braccetto on Via Salina and Via del Mare, the installation of PVC walkways, footbridges and ramps was almost complete. This documented status adds to the picture of a place where coastal landscapes, local events and access to the sea stand closely alongside one another, without Punta Braccetto being limited to just one type of holiday.
