Famous people pay special attention to Sicily. There are numerous vineyards, villas and farms belonging to the celebrities almost at every province of Sicily. Sicily is not only a native land for mafia bosses but also for many popular actors, actresses, artists, painters, composers and other creative people.
There are at least two well-known Sicilians who are considered to be the national heroes. They are the composer Bellini who was born in Catania, and the great artist Antonello de Messina. In Catania there are a lot of remarkable places, which have been named after Bellini, such as the park, the square, the theatre. Antonello de Messina is considered to be the most influential artist of Renaissance. He made Messina famous.
Speaking about our contemporaries who is already famous we can’t but mention Francis Albert Sinatra or just Frank Sinatra. His father was born in Sicily. Jean-Paul Belmondo can also consider himself to be a Sicilian, at least half of a Sicilian. We don't even talk about Martin Scorsese, because his Sicilian roots are well-known worldwide for long time.
What concerns modern Sicily numerous famous people live and conduct their business here. Among them is a wine-maker Gerard Depardieu and red-haired Mick Hacknell. By the way, Hacknell is brave and not afraid of the Etna volcano and has bought his house estate just on its slope. Depardieu started producing wine not in Sicily but on one of the nearest isles of it which is called Pantelleria. Giorgio Armani’s house estate is also situated in Pantelleria. Some time ago a famous singer Madonna preferred renting a place there. One of the holders of D&G (Dolce and Gabbana) also prefers living not in Sicily but on one of the Eolia islands called Stromboly. Eolia islands are for the world celebrities. The isle of Salina belongs to Eolia Archipelago. It is not often mentioned in the guides but a lot of famous people prefer spending holidays there: from Sir Thomas Sean Connery to the King of Belgium.
