Alì Terme in Sicily brings together thermal waters and coastal character with a local history reflected in two churches and their festivals. A narrow strip of beach borders clear, crystalline sea; at the same time, the Terme Marino, with an outdoor thermal-water pool open seasonally, provides a distinct focal point. Thermal baths, the coast and religious history thus stand side by side as different travel interests.

Thermal Waters and Coast

The Terme Marino uses water from an ancient thermal spring, which emerges at 39 °C. Its outdoor pool is fed by thermal water and offers thermal-water hydromassages as well as a Kneipp circuit. The pool operates seasonally. If you would like to include this facility in your trip, check in advance which season it operates. This lets you plan around its actual seasonal operation without assuming a particular period.

The coast offers a different focus: Alì Terme is bordered by a narrow strip of beach, next to clear, crystalline sea. This places a clearly defined coastal area and the thermal facilities side by side as distinct travel highlights.

Excursions into the surrounding area are also possible from Alì Terme. This adds another planning option to the local attractions if you would like to include excursions alongside thermal baths and the coast.

Churches, History and Feast Days

The Chiesa Madre di San Rocco is Alì Terme’s main church. It has a dedicated entrance for people with disabilities. The feast of San Rocco, the town’s patron saint, is celebrated with a procession on August 16. The church and festival thus link a specific place with a fixed date in the local festival calendar.

The Santuario di Maria Ausiliatrice was founded in 1890 by the Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice. The church of the Santuario was consecrated on May 15, 1901, and is dedicated to Mary under the title “Aiuto dei Cristiani.” The mortal remains of Blessed Maddalena Morano also rest in the Santuario. These details give the place its own ecclesiastical history, marked by its founding year, consecration and dedication.

Every year on May 24, the Santuario celebrates the Feast of Madonna Ausiliatrice with a procession through the town’s streets. May 24 and the San Rocco feast day on August 16 are specific points of reference if you are planning your trip with an interest in local festivals. Check the latest event information before visiting.

The Santuario also has a dedicated entrance for people with disabilities. If you rely on one of the entrances mentioned, check access arrangements before your visit.

Crafts, Cuisine and Trip Planning

Handmade straw hats are still produced in Alì Terme. Empanata di pesce spada is also one of the town’s traditional recipes. Crafts and cuisine complement the thermal facilities and churches with two other aspects of local life: an enduring craft tradition and a time-honored dish.

You can choose Alì Terme based on the experiences you would like to prioritize on your trip to Sicily.
