Letojanni combines a strong connection to the coast with a lively local history and a distinctive culture. The town was the first in Italy to be awarded the title “Città del Volo”. It also features an area included in the beach programme, a museum with notably diverse collections and several buildings that reflect the town’s history. Beach Programme and Lungomare

Letojanni Centro is included in the 2026 Blue Flag beach programme. This classification expressly refers to the area named and does not apply broadly to the entire town.

Another distinctive point of reference is the Lungomare. The municipality describes the promenade as a particularly accessible area. If this aspect matters when choosing your location, the municipal designation provides a specific indication for further research, without making a general statement about all routes or services in Letojanni.

A Museum Visit with a History of Medicine and Craftsmanship

The Museo Francesco Durante brings together different forms of cultural heritage. Its collection includes surgical instruments as well as manuscripts published by Francesco Durante. Scientific and medical historical artefacts therefore stand alongside written works by a figure associated with Letojanni.

A permanent exhibition is also dedicated to traditional textile embroidery. It presents the work of older women from Letojanni who pass on traditional yet original patterns and techniques. Church, Palace and Coastal Tower

In the centre of Letojanni, Chiesa di San Giuseppe stands on Piazza Francesco Durante. It is designed in the neo-Gothic style. The interior includes “La Pietà o Deposizione di Cristo”, an oil painting on canvas by an unknown 18th-century artist, and “L'Agonia di San Giuseppe”, an oil painting by Salvatore Frangiamore from 1878. There is also a finely chased silver monstrance from the 18th-century Messina school. The church therefore offers several specific points of reference for exploring religious art, painting and regional craftsmanship.

Another notable building is Palazzo Silipigni, a small, crenellated neo-Gothic castle with a tower. Torre Baglio was built in the 16th century to defend the coast. The two buildings add different historical forms to the townscape: a small neo-Gothic castle in one case, and a building with an explicitly stated coastal defence function in the other.
