Hiking at Fossa delle Felci

Santa Marina Salina lies on the slopes of Fossa delle Felci. Its large crater is mainly covered by fern vegetation and gives the landscape a clear natural focal point. A hiking trail from Serro dell'Acqua leads through olive groves and fruit trees to the Saracen caves. These consist of several interconnected rooms. Cross-shaped carvings and numerous votive symbols are still visible there today.

Another hiking trail to Monte Fossa delle Felci leads from Via Belvedere via Serro Favoloro and Serro Cicirilla to a fork at an elevation of 400 meters. At Monte Fossa delle Felci, a steep path leads to the 930-meter-high summit, from which the panorama extends in all directions. The two documented route descriptions show different facets of the mountain: one section names a specific route through designated landscape areas, while the other describes the steep ascent and the panoramic view from the summit.

Church and Island History

There are also independent destinations within the town itself. The Church of Santa Marina is an 18th-century church with two bell towers. The Santa Marina Salina museum circuit reconstructs the everyday life of the Aeolian population at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century in its rooms. In this way, the history of the town complements the natural experiences along the coast and in the mountains with an insight into life on the Aeolian Islands.
