Nature amid Forest, Altitude and Water

Bosco di Mangalaviti is a natural area belonging to the municipality of Longi in Parco dei Nebrodi. It lies at an altitude of between 1,200 and 1,500 metres above sea level, offering a distinctly different landscape perspective from a stay immediately on the coast. From Longi, you can reach the area via the road to Portella Gazzana.

At the beginning of Bosco di Mangalaviti lies Case Mangalaviti, an ancient estate and rural centre. The Sentiero Didattico is also located near Case Mangalaviti and is used for environmental education activities. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the forest with a place where engaging with the environment is explicitly the main focus.

A distinct landscape experience is the so-called “Stretta” di Longi. It is a valley crossed by rapids and waterfalls, where the two mountains appear almost to meet. The forest area and the valley therefore represent two different natural settings around Longi: the high-altitude landscape of Bosco di Mangalaviti on the one hand, and a narrow valley shaped by water on the other.

Active Experiences for Different Ability Levels

Nebrodi Adventure Park offers children, teenagers and adults elevated platforms, bridges and treetop courses with different levels of difficulty. This range is particularly appealing to families travelling together, as the park lists activities for different age groups and ability levels.

The park is located in Bosco Soprano in Contrada Pado, about 4 km from the centre of Longi. Anyone wishing to include it in their stay can take this information into account when orienting themselves locally. It also makes clear that the Adventure Park is not the same as the town centre.

Churches, History and an Inaccessible Landmark

Il Castello di Longi dates back to the Middle Ages. The Castello cannot currently be entered. It is therefore one of the town’s historical points of reference that you should view from the outside, without assuming that an accessible tour is available.

The Chiesa di Maria Santissima Annunziata was built in 1857 on Piazza Generale Moriondo, after the earlier church collapsed in the 1851 landslide. The church contains a marble statue of the Madonna Annunziata with gold-coloured painted details, a work by the brothers Antonino and Giacomo Gagini.

The Chiesa Madre of Longi also preserves notable historical elements: its bell tower dates from the 15th century, while its organ dates from the 17th century. Those interested in regional religious architecture and individual furnishings will therefore find several specific points of interest to explore in the town.

Local Tradition in January

One culinary tradition is the Sagra del Suino Nero dei Nebrodi. It is held in Longi every year in January. The date gives a trip during this season a clear local connection and complements the themes of nature and culture with an event centred on regional food traditions.
