Santa Teresa Di Riva: Beach and Cultural Heritage on the Ionian Sea

Santa Teresa Di Riva combines the coast of the Ionian Sea with a surprisingly diverse cultural landscape. The Chiesa Santa Maria di Porto Salvo goes back to a Romanesque chapel built in 1765 after a sea storm in 1763. Today, it contains a blessing Christ in the Norman-Byzantine style; the work was completed on February 18, 1995. The Chiesa della Madonna del Rosario dates from 1891. Other religious highlights include the Chiesa della Sacra Famiglia, with a main altar made of polychrome inlaid marble in the Baroque style. It also houses a large painting by Giuseppe Bonarrigo depicting the Wedding at Cana.

Palaces, Culture, and Performances

The Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù adds a modern architectural accent: the building has a single nave. The Villa Crisafulli-Ragno, a Neoclassical manor house with an adjoining park, offers another way to explore the town's history. In 2008, it was renamed Palazzo della Cultura. Since then, it has housed the town library and several cultural associations.

The Teatro Val d'Agrò also enhances Santa Teresa Di Riva's cultural profile. Theater and music workshops are organized there, and numerous performances are also staged.
