Scaletta Marina Holidays
Accommodation in Scaletta Marina
Scaletta Marina is located in the municipality of Scaletta Zanclea in Sicily. When choosing accommodation here, the exact address and routes to the historic buildings are key considerations. Some of the documented sights are elsewhere in the municipality and should not all be described as being directly in the marina area.
Castello Rufo Ruffo and Museum
According to the available local information, Castello Rufo Ruffo was built in 1220 at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia. An ethnological-anthropological museum was established in the castle of Scaletta Zanclea in 2005. It houses paper documents concerning the area and the historical origins of various feudal lords, particularly the Ruffo noble family. The collection described also includes medals, religious medallions, weapons, armour, hunting trophies and marble objects. The collection thus combines local history with objects from everyday life and of lordship. Check in advance whether individual items are currently on display and when the museum can be visited.
Churches in the Municipality
Several churches also represent different historical periods. St. Nicolò dates from the 17th century. The Church of SS. Annunziata dates from 1783; a 36-metre-high bell tower stands beside it. Our Lady of Carmel was built in 1852. The Church of Our Lady of Loreto is located in the hamlet of Guidomandri Marina. These names refer to different buildings; in particular, the hamlet where Our Lady of Loreto is located should not be confused with Scaletta Marina. Current visiting arrangements and mass times should be checked separately.
If you would like to include the castle and churches in your stay, compare the location of each destination on a map with that of your specific accommodation. This historical overview provides no information about room availability, prices or guest reviews. Only the published information for each listing can answer these questions.
