The Tyrrhenian coast north of Messina offers several easily accessible sandy beaches, including those in the areas of Mortelle, Sparta and Villafranca. In general, the water there is calmer than on the Ionian side. From Agricultural Area to Independent Village

Spartà initially emerged on plains at an altitude of less than 100 metres as a simple agricultural colony. This development began in the late 19th century and intensified particularly at the beginning of the 20th century. From the 1950s onwards, Spartà's development into an independent village became established. Those interested in the history of the locality will therefore encounter here not only a beach area, but also the comprehensible development of a settlement area.

Church, Manor Houses and Local Traditions

A specific cultural point of reference is the Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù. It is a parish church at Strada Statale 113, Vecchia Nazionale 8, 98163 Spartà, Messina. Historic manor houses built between the late 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century are located in the area surrounding the village. In June 2025, a cultural walk also led towards Spartà.

The parish of Sacro Cuore di Gesù e San Pietro Apostolo in Spartà is associated with the celebration “Solennità del Sacro Cuore di Gesù e Santo Pietro”. A gentle exercise course was also offered in the parish premises, open to everyone upon registration. The two references relate to different aspects of local life: the celebration points to the religious tradition, while the course was a community offering documented for a limited period.

Wildlife Observation on the Strait of Messina

The Centro per la tutela e la conservazione della fauna selvatica siciliana is located at the Tono di Spartà agricultural establishment on the state road to Ganzirri. Due to its location on the Strait of Messina, it is considered a strategic site for monitoring migratory bird populations. Alongside the beach and village history, this adds a nature-related topic that turns attention to the regional birdlife and its observation.

The late-summer event “PASSA SUL CORSARI” also takes place in September.
