Discover Bolognetta

Bolognetta combines hilly landscapes, rural traditions and noteworthy examples of sacred and civic culture. Between olive groves and vineyards, there are various ways to get to know the town: along nature trails, through street art, historic buildings, festivals and local cuisine.

Landscape and trails around Bolognetta

The area surrounding Bolognetta consists predominantly of hilly terrain with mostly clay soils. Olive groves and vineyards are widespread; olives, vegetables, broad beans, wheat and grapes are also produced. This agricultural setting provides the landscape framework for a stay in which nature and regional culture stand closely side by side.

Nearby are the Grotta e la Cascata di San Nicola, between the Torretta and Pizzo Cicero foothills. There, Torretta and Pizzo Cicero form a narrow section of the Milicia River and create an unexpected landscape setting. The nature trail in Bolognetta includes a visit to the Grotta di San Nicola. Another perspective is offered by the art trail along the town's streets.

Museums, churches and historic buildings

The Museo della Casa Contadina di Bolognetta presents an ethnographic collection relating to agro-pastoral work. The tools are arranged according to the production cycles of grain, olive growing, viticulture and livestock farming. The museum is housed in a typical rural dwelling from the early 20th century, known as a casa terrana. This makes it possible to discover the working world of the surrounding area not only through individual objects, but also in their spatial context.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Maria SS. Del Carmelo contains a wooden statue from the Bagnasco school and a painting by Alberto Duro. Bolognetta is also associated with the cult of the Madonna del Lume, observed since the 18th century and connected with a statue. The sculptural group Madonna del lume. Madonna con Bambino e anime del Purgatorio is catalogued for the period 1850–1899 and is a painted, life-size wooden statue.

Palazzo Monachelli was built in the 19th century as the aristocratic residence of the Monachelli family. On its roof is an observation turret, accessible from the terrace on the first floor via an iron spiral staircase. The Chiesa Madre of Bolognetta was built in 1603 near the Fondaco, on a widening at the edge of the Trassiera.

Festivals and flavours

The festival of Maria SS. del Lume concludes on the first Sunday in October with a solemn procession. The festival of Sant’Antonio da Padova is listed as taking place on 13 June and the second Sunday in August; the festival of Maria Santissima del Carmelo is listed as taking place on the third Sunday in July.

The local dish listed for Bolognetta is pasta rocculi arriminata, pasta with broccoli prepared in a pan. The Museo del Gusto was inaugurated on 21 December 2024. On the ground floor, it comprises the Bottega delle Conserve and the Bottega prodotti alimentari; the first floor contains a cooking laboratory.
