Zingaro is the first wildlife reserve on Sicily. It is located in the north of Trapani province right between the two small resorts of Castellammare del Golfo and San Vito Lo Capo. In Zingaro pure blue sea perfectly combines with the emerald greenery of subtropical plants and amber grey palette of the coastal cliffs.
Zingaro grottos belong to one of its main sights. Tours by sea that are regularly made to the nature reserve from the port of Castellammare are always in great demand. Only for €650 per day you can rent a boat with a skipper that will deliver you to the beaches located among the scenic cliffs. The tourists will enjoy the captivating views of a long chain of capes, numerous bays and creeks and, of course, the purest sand beaches during the tour. The tour itinerary includes a stop with swimming and sun baths in a small and cozy Grotta dell’Uzzo and a point of destination in San Vito Lo Capo.
The Cala Capreria, Cala del Varo and Cala della Disa grottos belong to the token places of Zingaro. The best point where opens a splendid view of the reserve is Monte Speziale.
But you should always remember that Zingaro is a reserve first of all. It was created with the aim of preserving a unique biosystem that nowadays is represented by tens of species of unique plants and animals on the area of 1,600 hectares. The reserve nature museum is considered to be the so-called research centre of Zingaro. It is located in Castellammare del Golfo in an ancient mansion.
The protected area of Zingaro includes a unique hamlet of Scopello. It is a peculiar museum of fishing life in the open air on Sicily. Not far from the hamlet is located an old fishing mooring and several abandoned houses of Borgo Cosenza. One can see life conditions and household articles of former citizens of Scopello in Zingaro Ethnographical museum.
If you decide to spend your vacation in Zingaro, then you can rent an apartment in San Vito lo Capo and Castellamare del Golfo. There is enough accommodation in these two resorts that will satisfy even the most capricious tourists. The most popular variant of accommodation here are villas with Bed&Breakfast and traditional hotels. There are some camping offers (La Fata, Soleado, Ciauli), luxury residences and country estates.
