Pozzallo between beach, harbour and history

Pozzallo combines a long Mediterranean beach with harbour life, historic buildings and an impressive religious tradition. Spiaggia Pietrenere in particular defines the town: the beach stretches for approximately 1,500 metres and offers fine golden sand, showers and beach facilities. This makes the clearly defined coastal landscape the focal point of Pozzallo, while several cultural attractions can also be explored in the town itself.

Beach, promenade and cycle path

A broad seafront promenade runs along Spiaggia Pietrenere. Along this promenade, you will find numerous bathing establishments, beach huts and visitor services. The cycle path on the seafront promenade leads to the centre of Pozzallo. This allows you to combine the beach and town centre in a single outing, without having to view the two sides of the town separately. Those who place particular importance on combining a coastal stay with discovering the town when choosing a hotel will therefore find Pozzallo a destination with clearly distinct yet closely interconnected experiences.

Historic buildings by the sea and in the centre

The Chiesa Santa Maria di Portosalvo stands directly beside the beach and Torre Cabrera. The location of this religious building illustrates how closely Pozzallo's coastline and history are connected. Torre Cabrera itself is a defensive tower built in the 15th century. It was constructed to protect the warehouses located in Pozzallo from pirate attacks and is therefore one of the town's most striking historic landmarks.

The Chiesa Madonna del Rosario is also located in the historic centre. The neoclassical church was built between 1878 and 1937. Together with Torre Cabrera and the Chiesa Santa Maria di Portosalvo, it forms a cultural tour through different eras and parts of the town: a 15th-century defensive tower, a church by the beach and a neoclassical building in the historic centre.

Harbour and connection to Malta

The harbour of Pozzallo serves several functions. It is a passenger port, fishing port, marina and tourist harbour. These various roles are part of the town's visible character and complement the beach experience with a maritime dimension. The Pozzallo–Malta catamaran service is also important for planning your trip: the crossing takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. This approximate duration remains an important aspect of the connection between Pozzallo and Malta.

A festival with a procession at sea

A special tradition is the festival in honour of San Giovanni Battista on 24 June. The celebrations include a procession at sea: the statue of the saint is taken out on a boat, followed by dozens of other small boats. This event adds a communal and maritime dimension to the image of Pozzallo, extending beyond an ordinary beach stay.
