Kamma in Pantelleria

Kamma in Pantelleria is of interest to travelers who want to combine landscapes, history, and wine. On the eastern side of Pantelleria, Khamma and Tracino are among the greenest districts. Terraced slopes descend there toward the sea, connecting the vineyards of the Piana della Ghirlanda with the fertile lands of Mueggen. The Cammino di Khamma, by contrast, leads through terraces and dry-stone walls in a gently uphill 15-minute walk to a viewpoint. The two trails therefore represent different ways of exploring: one provides access to a longer historical trail section with a choice of how to get there, while the other describes a clearly defined walk through the cultural landscape.

Church and Remembrance in Contrada Khamma

The Church of San Francesco is located in Contrada Khamma and is documented as early as 1552. Its patronal feast is celebrated on October 4. The Khamma Military Cemetery also commemorates the history of the Second World War. Around 30 soldiers, presumably Italian or foreign, who died in the Second World War are buried there. The Khamma Military Cemetery is therefore a historical testament to this period and adds another, more contemplative dimension to the landscape.

Wine and Special Places

The Donnafugata Winery in the Khamma district offers the opportunity to learn about the production of Ben Ryé and taste Donnafugata wines. The Giardino Pantesco Donnafugata adds its own cultural accent: in 2008, the Donnafugata family donated it to FAI. Together, these two details show how closely viticulture, local history, and special places are connected in this setting, without having to combine them into a single experience.
