The Parco Urbano di Misericordia extends over slightly more than 19 hectares. The park includes equipped areas, a children's playground, bocce courts, tables, benches, drinking fountains and toilets. The typical Mediterranean maquis also characterizes the area. Among other plants, dwarf palms, euphorbia, mastic shrubs, prickly broom and esparto grass grow there. For families, the playground offers a practical addition to walks, while the available seating areas make it possible to take a quieter break.

The park is also the starting point for the MT6, a 2.33-kilometre circular route that begins and ends at the park entrance. Those looking for a longer route can consider the Sentiero Monte Misericordia. It begins in the built-up centre of Valderice on Via Caposcale, initially follows a mixed route of unpaved and paved paths into the valley of Monte Misericordia and then climbs along its western slope. After the first 7.3 kilometres, the route continues on a paved side road between cultivated vineyards and olive groves.

Valderice has approximately six kilometres of coastline on the Gulf of Bonagia and offers impressive views of the coast and the Aegadian Islands. Cultural and religious events, as well as religious reenactments, take place in the Bosco di Misericordia, especially in December. As a result, the range of experiences extends from a short circuit in the park to a landscape where trails, vineyards, olive groves and coastal views open up different ideas for spending the day.

Industrial History, the Tonnara and the Sea

The Molino Excelsior is a testament to industrial archaeology. The Molino Excelsior preserves machinery and Liberty-style architectural decorations from the early 20th century. Today, the Molino also houses a Centro di Cultura Gastronomica, which aims to preserve and enhance local recipes and culinary techniques. It serves as a venue for cultural events, exhibitions, workshops and conferences.

Another cultural focus is located in Bonagia. The Museo del Mare e della mattanza is housed in a 16th-century watchtower next to a tonnara, whose present form dates back to 1626. The museum tells the story of the Tonnaroti in the places where they lived and worked and displays archaeological finds from the surrounding seabed. A tower, a church and a central courtyard remain from the Tonnara di Bonagia. The present building dates from the 17th century; the tonnara was probably already in operation from the 13th century.

Regional Cuisine and Living Traditions

Traditional Valderice cuisine includes Pani cunzato, Bottarga and Cassatedde cu broro. Fish has an important place in it because of the intensive fishing activities around Bonagia. This culinary aspect can be connected with the Molino Excelsior and the gastronomic culture based there, without separating the regional dishes from their historical setting.

The Carnevale di Valderice is also part of the local identity. The recurring tradition has been documented since 1992 and includes allegorical floats and a colourful parade along the town's main street.
