The Chiesa del Santissimo Crocifisso was built in the mid-18th century on a hill overlooking the town. Its exterior is designed in the Neoclassical style, while the interior is characterized by Baroque features. The church also contains 18th-century paintings depicting the Madonna and Child and Sant’Alberto. The site therefore combines the effect of its elevated location with clearly recognizable art-historical contrasts.

The Chiesa Madrice, dedicated to Saint Pope Sylvester, is one of the oldest churches in historic Calatafimi and dates back to the 15th century. It is designed in the Renaissance style, has three naves and preserves a small number of subtly gilded Baroque stucco works. The main altar contains a marble polyptych by Berrettaro and Mancino, created between 1509 and 1512. Those who view churches not only as buildings but also as places of art history will find here a distinct second focus alongside the Chiesa del Santissimo Crocifisso.

Panoramic Square, Segesta and a Historic Pilgrimage Route

The Belvedere Francesco Vivona is a spacious panoramic square reached via Viale Oberdan. As a counterpoint to the interiors of the museums and churches, this site offers an open perspective and complements the cultural tour with time spent outdoors.

The archaeological area of Segesta adds another historical dimension. The area includes a medieval village with a mosque and a castle on the summit. A specific section of the Via Mazarense is also documented for pilgrims: the tenth stage leads from Salemi to Calatafimi Segesta.
