According to Nicotra’s historical sources, the origins of the Torretta Granitola settlement date back to 1857. At that time, the brothers Salvatore and Filippo Di Benedetto moved fishing and the preservation of the catch there from Tre Fontane. This makes it possible to trace the development of the place through a specific economic activity rather than describing it only through general coastal imagery.

Traditional festivals are also part of this historical context. The Assumption was another traditional festival of Torretta Granitola, attended by numerous residents of Campobello. In Torretta Granitola, the end of the historic mattanza period was associated with the Feast of the Assumption on 15 August.
