The Riserva Naturale Serre di Ciminna is designated as a Riserva Naturale Orientata and covers 310.62 hectares in Ciminna. The protected area is part of the Natura 2000 site ZSC ITA020024 Rocche di Ciminna. Particularly characteristic are the karst features in an extensive occurrence of macrocrystalline Messinian gypsum. These include collapse dolines and a significant swallow hole – geological formations that give the landscape a distinctly different profile from an ordinary hill or woodland setting.

Monte Rotondo also offers a clear landscape contrast: its southern side is considered easily accessible, while the other sides feature steep rock faces. This distinction is relevant when planning your day, because the mountain does not have the same character on all sides. Archaeology, museums and sacred art

The Pizzo di Ciminna archaeological site contains significant evidence from the Archaic and Classical periods, particularly from the Hellenistic era. In the town, the Polo Museale di Ciminna complements this historical perspective. The cultural centre is designed as a decentralised museum and presents or preserves the artistic, cultural, demo-ethno-anthropological and archaeological heritage, as well as the municipal historical archive. The Polo Museale is housed in the former Ospedale di San Pietro, founded in 1506 by Paolo and Giovanna Ventimiglia.

Several churches preserve distinctive works of art. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista contains a wooden crucifix by an unknown artist, dated to the mid-15th century. The Chiesa di San Giacomo Apostolo houses a painted polychrome wooden statue of Saint James from the 16th century, also by an unknown artist. The Chiesa di San Giacomo is identified as the former Jewish synagogue of Ciminna; a women's gallery adjoins it.

The Chiesa Madre di Ciminna has three naves and a Latin-cross floor plan. Inside is a 16th-century marble triptych from the Gagini school. This makes it possible to combine different periods and art forms during a walk through the town, without reducing the sacred buildings to a single attraction.

Historic routes and distinctive local stories

The Percorso turistico monumentale passes through parts of Ciminna's medieval districts and by the ancient Porta Palermo. One precisely described section runs from the Chiesa di San Francesco to the Chiesetta di San Giacomo through the Jewish quarter and its narrow medieval lanes. The route therefore combines architectural orientation with a local history that also makes the former Jewish presence visible.

The Museo della Fotografia Don Filippo Meli offers another cultural perspective. The exhibition “Il set del Gattopardo in 300 immagini” was established there. It brings together photographs from the filming of the movie as well as behind-the-scenes images by Titanus. The exhibition programme included guided visits to filming locations, including Piazza Matrice and the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena.

Festivals, local products and travel

Cultural life is also reflected in the events. At the Festa di San Vito, a theatrical procession depicts the life, martyrdom and arrival of the saint's relics in Ciminna. Around 200 people take part in costumes from the Roman era and are arranged in 13 tableaux. The annual ’Nfriulata Day focuses on the traditional baked product of Ciminna. The annual Cuddiruni Festival is also dedicated to the product.
